The lander is equipped to measure heat transfer, geological evolution and seismic activity of the planet’s core, mantle and crust.

The InSight robotic lander used the same trajectory as the Phoenix lander in 2008. It entered Mars’s atmosphere from 125 km above surface, reaching a maximum speed of 20.000 km/h towards a decrease to 10km/h nearing the landing site on Elysium Planitia, Mars’s former largest ocean. There was an 8.1 min delay in communication between InSight and our planet, because of the 54,6 million km distance between Mars and Earth at the time of the mission. – Roman Alexander
